Synopsis

Story:
Saraswati Parthasarthy (Mawra Hocane) would never be able to find a suitable partner. Saroo takes refuge in her incorrigible neighbor Inder after being rejected by 10 men and being shunned by her own family (Harshvardhan Rane). Is their love tale going to finish happily?
Review:
A moody, unhappy man with a golden heart falls in love with a modest lady from a conventional household… an unusual match? At the very least, not in Bollywood. But you forgive Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the filmmaker team, just because of their flawless casting. When the rest of the movie falls flat, the lead couple’s seamless chemistry saves the day. The film’s most important aspect – the love narrative – is flawless for a romantic drama.
Otherwise, it’s riddled with flaws. The movie’s build-up is diluted by the sub-tracks. The film spends too much time and energy in the first half with what they call “the make-over of the Vibhuti aunty.” Vijay Raaz performs an obscene item song with back-up dancers directs off the sets of Shefali Jariwala’s Kaanta Laga to modernize the ‘fossil’ Saroo. If a father performing the final rites of his living daughter doesn’t kill the audience, nothing will.

The film succeeds as long as the attention remains on its protagonists. Harshavardhan, in addition to flashing his superbly sculpted body and wandering topless throughout the film, adds charm to his sorrow. Mawra is the perfect fit for her innocence and fragility. They are a pleasure from the start, from Inder softening whenever he is around Saraswati to seeing them play about in Kheech Meri Photo. You want to care about these people, but the film becomes strident over the course of its 155 minutes, a touch too syrupy to enjoy, and finally uninteresting. Your heart breaks for Harsh and Mawra, who have been let down by their foolish story.
Aashiqui 2 did a wonderful job of bringing back the theatrical romance of the 1990s, but Sanam Teri Kasam falls short.
