Jana Gana Mana Review:
In our culture, cold-blooded killings disguised as police interactions are not uncommon, and they are frequently hailed as ‘quick justice.’ The creators of Dijo Jose Antony’s Jana Gana Mana, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu, illustrate why and how false encounters are harming society and how politicians use them to influence our “emotions.”
Professor Saba Mariam (Mamta Mohandas) is discovered dead, with the media reporting that she was raped and her body was burned. Suraj Venjaramoodu plays police officer Sajjan Kumar, who is on a quest to apprehend those responsible for the crime. They make it difficult for him to continue the inquiry, and the participation of politicians just adds to the difficulty.
What Sajjan does at one point throughout the inquiry becomes the catalyst for the remainder of the tale.
Many real-life situations have informed the film, including the 2019 Hyderabad gang rape case and the ‘extrajudicial execution’ that followed. It demonstrates the difficulty with police officers breaching the law in this manner, how we are all conditioned to cast judgement on individuals based on how they appear or what they wear, the public’s erroneous support for such executions, and why they should not be praised…

all of them, thanks to a well-crafted plot Political parties have historically used police vigilantism as a technique to influence people’s emotions and garner votes, and it’s worth noting how a popular Malayalam film with top actors tackles the subject in an intriguing manner. Both Suraj and Prithviraj Sukumaran have done an excellent job in their respective parts, and the film’s staff deserves a lot of credit for bravely telling such a timely topic on screen. Who is to blame if a rape occurs every 15 minutes in our nation and we are only startled by a handful of them? Why does one person’s death mean more than another’s?
However, it was difficult not to notice the exceedingly poor quality of the Malayalam subtitles that were shown in the theatre, which were riddled with spelling errors and titles that were out of rhythm with the events on screen. If it is something that can be addressed in future screenings, it should at the very least benefit the film a lot more, given it has numerous non-Malayalam conversations. Those who want a good political criminal thriller based on true events would enjoy Jana Gana Mana, which teaches you how to think, question, challenge, and more as an ordinary guy who accepts news at face value.
With the recently released political thriller drama ‘Jana Gana Mana,’ Prithviraj Sukumaran and Dijo Jose Antony have absolutely hit it out of the park.
