Critic’s Rating: 3.0/5
The Kashmir Files Review
Based on testimonies from survivors, the video makes a compelling case that this wasn’t just an evacuation, but a horrific genocide that is still being pushed under the rug for political reasons. The Kashmiri Pandits (KP) have been living in exile for almost 30 years, with their homes and stores encroached by locals. They continue to seek justice and, most importantly, recognition. Despite the horrific consequences for evacuated families, few films have addressed this occurrence.
Voices being silenced appears to be a common dread, regardless of ideology, faith, or suffering. Kashmir has been beset by humanitarian crises, cross-border terrorism, separatist movements, and the battle for self-determination. Its scars are deep, and The Kashmir Files tears off the band-aid. Once affluent and multi-cultural, Kashmir is now a contested area that tries to stabilize itself under continual tension. We attempt to get to the truth is a little less than 3 hours. But, as they say, there are two sides to every story.

The exodus and its repercussions are revisited in Vivek Agnihotri’s dramatic and explosive film. It depicts the brutalities endured by KPs as a result of their religion, based on verifiable reports. Whether it was the assassination of telecom engineer BK Ganjoo in a rice barrel, the Nadimarg atrocity, in which 24 Hindu Kashmiri Pandits were slaughtered by militants in battle uniforms, or slanderous remarks, These real-life events are re-enacted in the film through the perspective of an elderly patriot, Pushkar Nath Pandit (Anupam Kher), his four best friends, and his on-the-edge grandson, Krishna (Darshan Kumaar). Krishna’s pursuit for truth, oblivious to his history, is the plot.
Although reopening old wounds may not provide a solution, healing may only occur if the trauma has been accepted. Agnihotri goes all out without watering down the events, making for an exciting viewing experience. He prefers shock to subtlety. A jumbled storyline mixed with a he-said-she-said narrative prevents you from empathizing with the characters or comprehending their mentality. The video skims across a number of themes at once, including the JNU digs, the media being compared to terrorist ki rakhail, selective international media reporting, the Indian Army, political warfare, the repeal of Article 370, and the mythology and ancient history of Kashmir.

Pushkar Nath Pandit and his narrative make you cry, but he gets lost in the shuffle, and the film feels longer and less detailed as a result. There’s more chaos and less context. The right to protest and competing viewpoints have a place, but those one-dimensional people hardly scratch the surface, so creating a balance and presenting alternative viewpoints feels like a formality.
A knot forms in your throat as you watch Anupam Kher’s heart-wrenching performance. Kher excels as a guy yearning for his long-lost home. Pallavi Joshi is also really good. Given her talent as an actress, you wish her role had more depth. In their individual parts, Chinmay Mandlekar and Mithun Chakraborty are competent.

Shikara, a love drama directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, received criticism for not being the unsung narrative of Kashmiri Pandits as it was sold to the audience. It did, however, bring you closer to their culture, grief, and despair. The bullet does not miss Vivek Agnihotri. He brings militancy and politics to the fore. In the backdrop, the anguish of being taken from your home looms…
As usual, the famous torrent sites of Tamilrockers, Isaimini, and tamilyogi have published the movie download links already.
